Ceretto Bricco Asili Barbaresco Bernardot 2020 Magnum is a red wine from Piedmont with a very clear sense of place. It is a Barbaresco DOCG from Treiso, made entirely from Nebbiolo grown in the high-lying Bernardot vineyard. The Bricco Asili reference in the name points to Ceretto's Barbaresco estate and cellar, while Bernardot identifies the specific vineyard behind the wine.

What makes this release especially engaging is the way Bernardot is described by Ceretto: related in soil character to Serralunga, yet expressed through a Barbaresco lens that is less severe and less monolithic. The wine keeps the firm Nebbiolo frame of tannin and acidity, but the emphasis is also on red fruit, grenadine, iris and a supple mouthfeel rather than sheer density.

The wine is organically certified, in line with Ceretto's estate-wide certification since the 2015 harvest. For the 2020 vintage, maturation of 24 months in tonneaux is mentioned, following fermentation in steel and a long maceration. The colour sits between ruby and garnet. Aromatically, it opens with red fruit and dark cherry, followed by blackcurrant, raspberry, strawberry and pomegranate. Floral notes of rose, violet, iris and orange blossom add lift, while dried herbs, cedar, tobacco, leather, incense, earth, truffle, liquorice and an iron-like nuance bring depth.

On the palate it is dry, precise and structured. The fruit feels ripe, with a gentle softness in the background, yet the acidity keeps the wine alive and focused. The tannins are fine-grained and firm, sometimes slightly powdery or chalky toward the finish, which is long and marked by fruit, spice, earthy detail and a saline edge.
