Valdespino Macharnudo Alto 2023 comes from Jerez, yet it is very clearly not sherry. It is a still, non-fortified white wine made from 100% Palomino Fino, the grape so closely linked with the region. The fruit comes from Pago Macharnudo Alto, described by Valdespino as the Grand Cru of Jerez de la Frontera.
Its appeal lies in the way it expresses Jerez through wine rather than through fortification. The Palomino grows on white albariza limestone soils and is hand-harvested at optimal ripeness. Fermentation takes place in sherry casks, followed by six months on the fine lees, bringing texture and a gentle roundness while keeping the wine dry, fresh and mineral at its core.
