Frank Phelan 2020

Frank Phelan 2020 is the second wine of Ch Phelan Segur in Saint-Estèphe, a red Bordeaux that shows another side of the same estate. It is named after Frank Phelan, son of Bernard Phelan, the founder of the domaine, and has been made alongside the grand vin since 1986.
The 2020 vintage is composed of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit comes from the Ch Phelan Segur terroir, with clay and gravel soils over a limestone subsoil. The second wine is made with the same care as the main wine, while the selection brings out a rounder and more immediately approachable expression of Saint-Estèphe.
The growing season in 2020 was marked by contrast: wet conditions early on, drought in July, refreshing rain in August and then favourable (…)Chateau Calon Segur 2020

Château Calon Ségur 2020 is the grand vin of the Saint-Estèphe estate in the Médoc, carrying the 1855 classification of Troisième Grand Cru Classé. It is very much a Cabernet Sauvignon-led Bordeaux, shaped by a vintage that required careful work both in the vineyard and in the cellar.
The 2020 blend is built around Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a small touch of Petit Verdot. The grapes were hand-harvested and carefully selected, first in the vineyard and then again before vinification. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by around 20 months of maturation in new French oak barriques.
The year brought warmth, drought and some difficult moments, yet the (…)Chateau Calon Segur 2021 Demi (37,5cl)

Château Calon Ségur 2021 in demi format is a half bottle of a serious Saint-Estèphe: the grand vin of Château Calon Ségur, a Troisième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification. The 37.5 cl size does not change the wine itself, but it does make this Bordeaux easier to approach when a full bottle is more than you need.
The 2021 blend is led very clearly by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Cabernet Franc, Merlot and a small share of Petit Verdot. Its Saint-Estèphe origin matters here: gravel deposits over a predominantly clay-based subsoil help frame the structured, Cabernet-driven style. The grapes were hand-harvested and carefully selected before maturation in new French barriques.

Château Calon Ségur 2021 is the grand vin of the estate, from Saint-Estèphe in the Médoc. As a Troisième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, it sits firmly in the tradition of left bank Bordeaux, with Cabernet Sauvignon at the heart of the wine. In 2021 the blend is led by 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Cabernet Franc, Merlot and a small proportion of Petit Verdot.
The estate describes 2021 as a classic Bordeaux vintage, shaped by moderate alcohol, fresh acidity and elegant tannins. The grapes were harvested by hand and carefully sorted, followed by vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and 20 months of ageing in new oak barrels.

Château Calon Ségur 2021 Magnum is the grand vin of Château Calon Ségur in Saint-Estèphe, Médoc. The 1.5-litre bottle is not a separate cuvée, but the estate's main wine in magnum format: a dry red Bordeaux from a property classified as a Troisième Grand Cru Classé in 1855.
The château describes 2021 as a classically styled Bordeaux vintage, marked by moderate alcohol, clear freshness and elegant tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc set the tone of the blend, supported by Merlot and a small proportion of Petit Verdot. That emphasis fits the Calon Ségur vineyard, where deep gravel over mainly clay soils helps shape the structure and Cabernet-driven identity of the wine.

Château Capbern 2019 is a red wine from Saint-Estèphe in the Médoc, with Cabernet Sauvignon clearly setting the tone. The blend is 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, a higher Cabernet share than usual for Capbern, giving the wine the firm, structured presence associated with this appellation.
Château Capbern is connected to Château Calon Ségur, and the 2019 vintage was made with a careful, classic approach: hand harvesting, sorting tables, temperature-controlled stainless-steel fermentation and 18 months of maturation, with a significant proportion of new oak barriques. That maturation supports the ripe dark fruit with notes of spice, cedar, tobacco and a clear oak influence.

Chateau Capbern 2020 is a red Saint-Estèphe from Bordeaux with a clear cabernet sauvignon imprint. The blend is led by cabernet sauvignon, supported by merlot and small proportions of cabernet franc and petit verdot. That gives the wine its firm framework: dark fruit, spice and structure are very much at the centre of the style.
The estate has a long-standing historical and technical link with Château Calon Ségur, yet Chateau Capbern is its own wine, not a second wine. The grapes come from vineyards in Saint-Estèphe, planted on sandy gravel, clay gravel and limestone subsoil. After hand harvesting and selection, the wine is vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, then aged for 18 months in oak barriques, 60% of them new.

This red wine from the Médoc is led by Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot and a small proportion of Petit Verdot completing the blend. The result is a wine with clear structure and definition, without feeling heavy.
Capbern has a close historical and technical connection with Château Calon Ségur. Its vineyards lie in the north-east of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, on soils of sand, gravel, clay and limestone. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected, followed by vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Eighteen months in barriques, with a significant share of new oak, adds support while leaving the fruit and (…)Chateau Capbern 2022

Château Capbern 2022 is a red Saint-Estèphe from the Médoc, made in a Bordeaux vintage noted for ripeness and concentration. The result is firmly rooted in the Left Bank style, with the depth and density associated with 2022.
Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend, supported by a generous proportion of Merlot and small amounts of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The vines grow on sandy gravel, clay gravel and limestone soils. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel, followed by around 18 months of maturation, with a significant share in new oak barriques.

Château Cos d'Estournel 2016 is the grand vin of this Saint-Estèphe estate in the northern Médoc. It is a red Bordeaux blend built primarily on cabernet sauvignon, with merlot and a small touch of cabernet franc. The vineyard setting is central to the wine: the estate describes its site as a hill of pebbles, with deep gravel, clay-limestone sections and grapes for the first wine coming from older vines.
The 2016 vintage was shaped by a cold, wet spring followed by a hot, dry summer. Rain on 13 September was considered important by the estate for continued ripening, before harvest took place from late September to mid-October. The wine spent 15 months in French oak barrels, with a significant share of new oak, while the style is described as structured (…)Chateau Cos D'Estournel 2016 Magnum (1,5l)

The blend is led by cabernet sauvignon, supported by merlot and a small proportion of cabernet franc. The growing season was marked by contrast: a cold, wet start, followed by a warm, dry summer, with September rain helping the ripening process resume. According to the estate, the berries reached ripeness without becoming overripe. Château Cos d'Estournel 2021 Demi is the half-bottle format of the grand vin from Château Cos d'Estournel in Saint-Estèphe, Médoc. As a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, it carries serious Bordeaux pedigree, yet the 2021 vintage is especially notable for its precision: Cabernet-led, structured and more restrained than opulent.
The blend is 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The fruit comes from the estate's oldest vines, averaging around 55 years of age, and only 53% of production made it into the grand vin. Ageing took place in French oak barrels, around 55% new, with the oak showing through cedar, tobacco, spice and a light toasted note rather than overt sweetness.

Château Cos d'Estournel 2022 in demi-bottle is the Grand Vin of the estate from Saint-Estèphe in the Médoc. The 37.5 cl format is simply the half-bottle size, not a different cuvée: it is the same red Saint-Estèphe AOC from a château classified as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in 1855.
The 2022 vintage is shaped by early ripening, warmth and dry conditions. On the hill of Cos, the deep roots of older vines and the clay-rich parts of the vineyard were important in handling the heat and drought. Cabernet sauvignon forms the core of the blend, supported by a substantial share of merlot and small amounts of cabernet franc and petit verdot.

Chateau Cos Labory 2022 is a red Bordeaux from Saint-Estèphe in the Médoc, made as the estate's Grand Vin. Its status as a Cinquième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification gives it historical weight, but the more immediate interest lies in its origin: the core vineyard parcels sit on the Cos hill, with deep gravel, clay and a limestone-rich subsoil.
The 2022 blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, supported by Petit Verdot and a small share of Cabernet Franc. The grapes were hand-harvested and selected, then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Ageing took place in French oak barriques, 50% of them new. Château de Pez 2018 is the estate's Grand Vin, from Saint-Estèphe on Bordeaux's Left Bank. The blend is built almost equally on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with small additions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. That balance gives the wine the firm Saint-Estèphe frame, while Merlot brings depth and dark fruit around the structure.
The estate's 42 hectares are divided into around seventy individual plots, set on higher Garonne gravel rises over a clay-limestone subsoil. Good drainage, the moderating influence of the Gironde and plot-by-plot vinification all play a role in the style of the wine. Château de Pez 2022 is the grand vin of Château de Pez in Saint-Estèphe, within the Médoc. It is a dry red Bordeaux built around a classic blend, with the vineyard setting playing an important role: gravel rises over clay and limestone soils.
The 2022 blend is led by merlot and cabernet sauvignon, with small amounts of cabernet franc and petit verdot. Vinification was carried out parcel by parcel, using wooden vats and temperature-controlled stainless steel truncated-cone tanks. The wine then spent 15 months in French oak barrels, half of them new, giving it the framework for ageing without taking the focus away from its Saint-Estèphe identity.

The estate, whose modern reputation developed from 1952 under Hervé Duboscq, is recognised as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel and is rooted in vineyards on Günz gravel with a clay-limestone subsoil.
The 2022 vintage is built around merlot and cabernet sauvignon, supported by small proportions of cabernet franc and petit verdot. That relatively generous merlot presence is part of the Haut-Marbuzet identity: ripe fruit, a rounded texture and more immediate generosity than the most severe expressions of Saint-Estèphe, while still keeping the structure expected from the appellation.

The fruit comes from vineyards on deep gravel and gravel over clay, harvested by hand from late September into October. One of the defining features of the 2020 vintage is its notably high proportion of Merlot for Saint-Estèphe. The blend brings together Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The 2022 vintage brought fully ripe grapes and small, concentrated berries at the château. Merlot and cabernet sauvignon form the core of the blend, supported by cabernet franc and petit verdot. The cabernets are planted mainly on gravel-rich soils, while merlot comes from cooler sandy-clay parcels, a combination that helps explain the wine's mix of ripe fruit, freshness and structure.
