Domaine Henri Giraud Ay Pinot Noir Grand Cru Cuvée des Froides Terres 2016 is a still red wine from Champagne, not a sparkling champagne. That already gives it a distinct place: a Coteaux Champenois red from Aÿ, a Grand Cru village in the Vallée de la Marne, made from Pinot Noir rather than presented through bubbles.
The wine is produced from 100% Pinot Noir grown in Henri Giraud's Aÿ terroir, where the variety plays a central role. The available information points to a south-facing Grand Cru site with chalk-rich soils and the cooling influence of the Marne, all linked to the wine's freshness. For the 2016 vintage, production was very small; the bottles are numbered and a total of 2,023 bottles is mentioned.
