Altano White Riserva 2021 is a Portuguese white wine that brings freshness and structure together in a very Douro way. Produced by Symington, it comes from high-altitude vineyards in areas such as Provesende and Valença do Douro, around 500 to 600 metres above sea level. That altitude matters here, because it helps preserve the acidity and brightness that shape the wine's character.
The blend is made from Arinto, Viosinho, Rabigato and Códega do Larinho. Much of the wine was barrel-fermented and aged sur lie, using French and Hungarian oak with a small proportion of acacia. Malolactic fermentation was avoided to retain freshness. This gives the wine more texture and mouthfeel than a simple unoaked Douro Branco, while keeping a clear, dry and lively profile.
