La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou 2016 is a dry red Bordeaux from Saint-Julien, produced by Ch. Ducru Beaucaillou on Bordeaux's Left Bank. It is widely referred to as the second wine of the château, while information on this vintage also describes it as a Grande Réserve from a specific part of the estate in the heart of the appellation.The blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot Noir and a small proportion of Petit Verdot. Its fruit comes from Günz gravel soils on a south-facing slope near the Mouline stream. That setting helps explain the style described in the tasting notes: dark fruit at the centre, with a firmer graphite-like and mineral line running through it.
The 2016 growing season was marked by contrast: a cool, wet spring, followed by a dry and warm summer, then favourable late-season conditions that allowed full ripening. Maturation took place over 12 months in French oak barriques, 60% of them new, bringing cedar, vanilla and spice notes around the wine's black-fruit core.

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a respected winery from the Bordeaux region in France, more specifically located in the Saint-Julien appellation. The estate owes its name to the striking pebbles (beaux cailloux) in the soil, a feature that contributes to the character of the wines. Château Ducru-Beaucaillou belongs to the so-called Deuxièmes Crus Classés according to the famous 1855 classification. The estate has a rich history that dates back to the 18th century and has been managed by the Borie family since 1941. In the vineyards, mainly cabernet sauvignon is planted, supplemented with merlot, which is typical for Saint-Julien.
