Connetable Talbot 2022 Magnum (1,5l)

Connetable Talbot 2022 Magnum is the second wine of Château Talbot from Saint-Julien in the Médoc. It offers a way into the character of a classified Bordeaux estate, with the clarity and structure associated with the left bank, presented in a style that is closer to approachability than the estate's grand vin.
For the 2022 vintage, the blend is led by cabernet sauvignon, supported by merlot. The fruit comes from Château Talbot's vineyards on Médoc gravel soils. Harvesting was carried out by hand, followed by successive selections, then vinification in stainless steel tanks and full ageing in barriques.
The 1.5 litre magnum format gives this Saint-Julien a generous table presence. At Drankenshop Broekmans, it sits comfortably among (…)Chateau Beychevelle 2019

Château Beychevelle 2019 is the Grand Vin of the Saint-Julien estate on Bordeaux's Left Bank. As a Fourth Growth from the 1855 classification, Beychevelle carries serious Bordeaux pedigree, yet the 2019 vintage is particularly engaging for the way it brings together concentration, freshness and fine tannic depth.
The blend is 49% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Around 55% of the harvest was selected for the Grand Vin, drawn from the estate's best plots. In the modern cellar, parcel-by-parcel vinification supports that selective approach, followed by 18 months in oak barriques, 60% of them new.
The growing season brought a dry, sunny summer, later balanced by September rain and cooler nights. According to the (…)Chateau Beychevelle 2019 Magnum (1,5l)

Château Beychevelle 2019 Magnum is the grand vin of Château Beychevelle from Saint-Julien in the Médoc. It is a dry red Bordeaux from an estate listed as a Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification. The 1.5-litre magnum is not a separate cuvée, but the same grand vin in a larger bottle format.
The 2019 vintage was shaped by a dry, sunny and very warm summer, followed by September rain and cooler nights. According to the château, this helped extend ripening while preserving freshness in the grapes. The blend brings together merlot, cabernet sauvignon, petit verdot and cabernet franc, with a firm selection for the grand vin: around 55% of the harvested volume was used.

Chateau Beychevelle 2021 is the grand vin of Château Beychevelle from Saint-Julien, on Bordeaux's Left Bank. As a 4th Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, it carries a serious pedigree, but the interest here is especially in the vintage character: 2021 shows a fresher, more restrained and classically structured side of Beychevelle.
The blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon at 57%, with 38% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. That Cabernet presence is central to the wine's shape, supported by the estate's deep Garonne gravel soils and its position close to the Gironde. The year itself was technically demanding, with frost, cool wet periods and mildew pressure, followed by sunnier weather in August and September that helped the Cabernet (…)Chateau Beychevelle 2021 Demi (37,5cl)

The 2021 vintage has a distinctly classical feel. A cool, wet growing season was followed by sunnier conditions in August and September, helping Cabernet Sauvignon to ripen particularly well. That is reflected in the blend: 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Ageing with 70% new barriques adds structure and polish while keeping the wine firmly within its Saint-Julien style.

Château Beychevelle 2022 is the estate's grand vin, a dry red Bordeaux from Saint-Julien AOC in the Médoc, on the left bank of the Gironde. It is a Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, generally listed as a Quatrième Grand Cru Classé.
The 2022 vintage carries the imprint of a hot, dry growing season. After a cold winter, spring frost and an exceptionally warm summer, the château harvested small, concentrated berries with thick skins and pronounced tannins, while retaining freshness through concentrated acidity. The blend is 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot, giving the wine a recognisably Saint-Julien sense of structure and depth.

Beychevelle is a Quatrième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, and the 2022 vintage is based on cabernet sauvignon, merlot and a small proportion of petit verdot. The growing season was hot and dry, producing small, concentrated berries with thick skins. That background helps explain the wine's dark colour, generous concentration and firm yet controlled structure, while the tasting notes repeatedly point to freshness as an important part of its balance.

Château Branaire-Ducru 2021 shows Saint-Julien in a classical, finely drawn style. This is the grand vin of Château Branaire-Ducru, a Quatrième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 Médoc classification, grown on gravelly alluvial soils in the southern part of the appellation.
The 2021 vintage has a cooler, more Atlantic feel than the warmer years that came before it. A slow ripening season helped preserve acidity, giving the wine a more precise line rather than a broad, opulent profile. It is a Bordeaux built around freshness, structure and clear fruit definition.
Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend at 66%, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. That explains much of the wine's personality: firm Cabernet-driven shape, (…)Chateau Branaire Ducru 2021 Demi (37,5cl)

Château Branaire-Ducru 2021 is a red Bordeaux from Saint-Julien, offered here in a 1.5-litre magnum. The 2021 vintage has a more classical, Atlantic feel than the warmer 2018, 2019 and 2020 releases: less about sheer weight, more about freshness, structure and precision.
The blend is built around cabernet sauvignon, at 66%, supported by 22% merlot, 6.5% cabernet franc and 5.5% petit verdot. That cabernet emphasis reflects the season, as the dry and sunny spell towards the end of the growing cycle particularly benefited the cabernets. The 2022 blend is led by cabernet sauvignon, supported by merlot, cabernet franc and petit verdot. The fruit comes from the estate's vineyards in Saint-Julien, where gravelly and stony alluvial soils are central to the wine's identity. The vintage was shaped by high summer temperatures and marked water stress, yet the château reports that the grapes kept their freshness, with very small berries, ripe pips and strong phenolic potential.

Château Branaire-Ducru 2016 is the estate's grand vin, a Fourth Growth from the 1855 classification and a red Bordeaux from Saint-Julien on the Left Bank. Cabernet sauvignon leads the blend, supported by merlot, petit verdot and cabernet franc, giving the wine its sense of structure, dark-fruited depth and Médoc identity.
The 2016 vintage is a key part of the story. A cool, wet spring was followed by a long dry and sunny period in summer, while rain in mid-September helped the final stage of ripening. Harvest took place parcel by parcel from late September to mid-October, allowing the château to pick according to the maturity of each plot.

Chateau Du Glana 2019 is a red Saint-Julien from Bordeaux's Left Bank, in the Médoc. This is the grand vin of Château du Glana rather than the second wine, built around a Cabernet Sauvignon-led blend with Merlot in support. For the 2019 vintage, the château particularly highlights ripe fruit, tannic structure and the quality of the Cabernet Sauvignon.
The growing season helps explain the wine's shape. A mild winter brought early budbreak, followed by cooler flowering without significant impact on the crop. The summer was exceptionally warm and caused noticeable water stress, yet ripening did not stop. A dry, warm and sunny September then encouraged even véraison and contributed colour and tannin potential to the grapes.

Château du Glana 2020 is a red Bordeaux from Saint-Julien and the grand vin of the estate. The blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Merlot gives it a clearly Médoc identity: dark fruit, firm structure and the Cabernet-led backbone that defines the wine, with Merlot adding its part to the overall shape.
The 2020 vintage was early and warm. Dry conditions produced smaller berries, lower yields and greater concentration. Harvest took place from 14 to 29 September, followed by temperature-controlled vinification in concrete and stainless-steel vats. The wine then spent 12 months in French oak barriques, 40% of them new.

The 2021 vintage was a cooler, more demanding Bordeaux year. Spring was wet and cool, mildew pressure was high, and ripening moved slowly before a sunny, fairly dry August helped the grapes progress without heat spikes. For Château du Glana, that translated into a wine shaped by freshness, structure and a more traditional balance between alcohol and acidity.
After temperature-controlled vinification, the wine spent 12 months in barriques, 35% of them new. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a (…)Chateau Du Glana 2022

Château du Glana 2022 is a red Bordeaux from Saint-Julien, made as the grand vin of the Meffre family estate. The blend is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot, placing the wine firmly in a Médoc register of dark fruit, structure and freshness.
The 2022 vintage gives this release much of its identity. A mild, dry winter was followed by a warm summer, while water reserves in the soil helped the vines withstand drought pressure. Small berries brought notable phenolic concentration, so the château worked with gentle, low-temperature extraction rather than pushing the wine too hard. That choice helps explain the combination of depth, ripe tannin and freshness described for this vintage.

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 2016 Magnum is the grand vin of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou from Saint-Julien in Bordeaux. The estate is a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, yet the most compelling part of this wine is its sense of place: the name refers to the beaux cailloux, the deep Günz gravel and quartz stones that help define the vineyard.
The 2016 vintage is made from 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot. That Cabernet-led blend sits at the heart of the wine's powerful, structured style. The growing season began with a cool, wet spring, followed by drought and then a favourable late summer, allowing the harvest to take place under good ripening conditions.

The 2019 vintage presents a left-bank style built around ripe dark fruit, firm structure and well-measured oak influence.
Château Gloria has an interesting position in Saint-Julien. It is not part of the official 1855 classification, yet the estate was built up parcel by parcel within the appellation, with vineyards spread across several areas of Saint-Julien. The 2020 vintage has a clear story of its own: an early season, a wet spring, then a warm and dry summer that reduced yields but delivered positively regarded fruit. Chateau Gloria 2020 Magnum is a red Bordeaux from Saint-Julien in the Médoc, bottled in the generous 1.5 litre format. A magnum immediately changes the mood around a wine: it belongs on a table where the bottle may take its time, and this larger format can develop more gradually than a standard bottle.
Château Gloria has an intriguing position in Saint-Julien. It is not part of the 1855 classification, yet the estate was built from the late 1930s onwards by Henri Martin, who acquired vineyard parcels one by one, largely from historically classified growths within the appellation. That background gives Gloria its particular appeal: firmly rooted in classic left bank Bordeaux, but with a story that sits outside the official hierarchy.

The fruit comes from vineyards spread across three parts of Saint-Julien, including the centre of Beychevelle, the west of the appellation and the northern area bordering Pauillac. The vines average around 40 years of age and grow on Günz gravel over a clay-sandy subsoil. In 2021, a cooler and wetter growing season was followed by more favourable conditions in September and October, helping the wine retain aromatic clarity and freshness.
