Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou 2016 Magnum (1,5l)

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 2016 Magnum is the grand vin of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou from Saint-Julien in Bordeaux. The estate is a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, yet the most compelling part of this wine is its sense of place: the name refers to the beaux cailloux, the deep Günz gravel and quartz stones that help define the vineyard.
The 2016 vintage is made from 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot. That Cabernet-led blend sits at the heart of the wine's powerful, structured style. The growing season began with a cool, wet spring, followed by drought and then a favourable late summer, allowing the harvest to take place under good ripening conditions.
Maturation lasted 18 months in 100% new French oak (…)La Croix Ducru Beaucaill 2020 Magnum (1,5l)

La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou 2020 in magnum is a dry red Bordeaux from Saint-Julien, made by Château Ducru-Beaucaillou. The 1.5-litre bottle is not a separate cuvée, but it does give the wine a different sense of occasion: a generous format for a structured Left Bank Bordeaux.
The 2020 blend brings together 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot Noir and 3% Petit Verdot. Its origin lies in the vineyards of Ducru-Beaucaillou in Saint-Julien, with producer information linking the estate to the gravel-rich Günz soils behind the Beaucaillou name. That background fits the wine's profile well: dark fruit, graphite-like tension, ripe tannins and a firm central core.

La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou 2016

La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou 2016 is a dry red Bordeaux from Saint-Julien, produced by Ch. Ducru Beaucaillou on Bordeaux's Left Bank. It is widely referred to as the second wine of the château, while information on this vintage also describes it as a Grande Réserve from a specific part of the estate in the heart of the appellation.
The blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot Noir and a small proportion of Petit Verdot. Its fruit comes from Günz gravel soils on a south-facing slope near the Mouline stream. That setting helps explain the style described in the tasting notes: dark fruit at the centre, with a firmer graphite-like and mineral line running through it.
The 2016 growing season was marked by contrast: a cool, wet (…)La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou 2019

La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou 2019

La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou 2019 is a red Saint-Julien from the vineyards of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, closely tied to the gravel-rich soils behind the Beaucaillou name. It is often positioned in the trade as a second wine or as a separate cuvée from selected parcels of the estate, yet it still speaks very clearly of its origin: Cabernet Sauvignon at the core, Merlot Noir close behind and a small addition of Petit Verdot.
The 2019 vintage gives the wine real substance. A warm summer produced small, concentrated berries, while late-season rain and cooler nights helped retain freshness. Twelve months in Bordeaux barriques made from French oak, with a significant share of new wood, bring notes of toast, vanilla and polished oak around the dark fruit rather than (…)La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou 2020

La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou 2020 is a red Bordeaux from Saint-Julien, made by Château Ducru-Beaucaillou. It is the château's second cuvée, sourced from its own vineyards within the appellation. That gives the wine a clear link to one of the Médoc's notable estates, while remaining a cuvée with its own identity.
The 2020 blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with a small proportion of Petit Verdot. It spent 12 months in French oak Bordeaux barrels, including a substantial share of new oak, yet the tasting descriptions point more towards dark fruit, graphite, floral notes and savoury spice than towards oak as the main feature.
The vintage adds another layer of interest. 2020 marked the 300th anniversary of Château (…)La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou 2021

La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou 2021 is a dry red Bordeaux from Saint-Julien on Bordeaux's Left Bank. It comes from Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, the Borie family estate, and is often described within the château's range as a second wine, while also standing as its own expression of selected Ducru-Beaucaillou terroirs.
In 2021, Cabernet Sauvignon takes the lead: 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by 32% Merlot Noir and 4% Petit Verdot. That Cabernet presence gives the wine its firmer, more focused shape. Twelve months in French Bordeaux barrels, 60% of them new, add spice and subtle cocoa-toned depth without turning the wine into an oak-driven style.
Its Saint-Julien origin is central to the story. Günz gravel, quartz pebbles and poor, well-drained (…)La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou 2021 Magnum (1,5l)

La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou 2021 in magnum is a Saint-Julien with a direct connection to Château Ducru-Beaucaillou. It is the château's second wine, made from selected parcels within the appellation, with cabernet sauvignon playing the leading role in the blend alongside merlot and a small proportion of petit verdot.
The 2021 vintage shows a classical Bordeaux profile here. Freshness, precision and structure are more important than sheer ripeness. The gravelly soils of Saint-Julien and the influence of the Gironde estuary support a wine built around dark fruit, tension and a firm yet refined tannic frame.
Maturation for 12 months in French Bordeaux barriques, including a significant share of new oak, gives the wine extra shape without pushing the (…)La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou 2022

La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou 2022

La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou 2022 is the second wine of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou in Saint-Julien, drawn from the château's own vineyards within the appellation. It sits clearly within the estate's range: below the Grand Vin Château Ducru-Beaucaillou and above Le Petit Ducru de Ducru-Beaucaillou.
The 2022 vintage is particularly notable for its blend of 66% Merlot Noir, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot. That relatively high share of Merlot gives this release its own identity within the cuvée. The fruit comes from Ducru-Beaucaillou's Saint-Julien terroirs, where poor, gravelly soils rich in quartz the beaux cailloux behind the name are central to the estate's sense of place.
A warm, dry growing season produced small, (…)La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou 2022 Magnum (1,5l)

La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou 2022 is the second wine of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou from Saint-Julien in the Médoc. This 1.5-litre magnum contains the same cuvée as the regular bottle, but in a format that feels particularly well suited to the table, a special dinner or patient cellaring.
The 2022 vintage gives this wine a concentrated and structured expression. Merlot takes the lead in the blend, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon and a small proportion of Petit Verdot. Behind that sits the setting of the estate itself: poor, gravelly soils, parcels influenced by the Gironde, and a precise selection approach from one of Saint-Julien's important château names.
A high proportion of new French oak adds depth and framing, yet the wine is not (…)Madame De Beaucaillou 2019

Madame De Beaucaillou 2019 is a red Bordeaux from the Haut-Médoc, made by the teams behind Château Ducru-Beaucaillou. The cuvée pays tribute to Madame Eugène-Borie and was introduced with the 2019 vintage, drawing on Haut-Médoc vineyards connected to the family's history.
It should be seen as its own wine rather than as one of the estate's Saint-Julien bottlings. The blend is led by Merlot, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and a small proportion of Cabernet Franc. That gives it ripe fruit, structure and a spiced undertone, while keeping the style approachable rather than austere.
Twelve months in Bordeaux barriques, partly new French oak, add shape and polish without taking over the fruit. At Drankenshop Broekmans, this (…)Madame De Beaucaillou 2020

Madame de Beaucaillou 2020 is a red Haut-Médoc from the wider world of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, yet it stands apart from the Saint-Julien grand vin. It is made from Borie family vineyards outside Saint-Julien and was created as a tribute to Madame Eugène-Borie. That gives the wine a clear Bordeaux family connection, expressed here through the Haut-Médoc appellation.
The blend is led by Merlot Noir at 66%, supported by 24% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot. Twelve months in Bordeaux barrels, with 20% new French oak, add structure while keeping the fruit at the centre of the wine. The 2020 vintage is described through tasting notes as ripe and concentrated, yet also fresh and digestible rather than heavily extracted.
