Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 2016 Magnum is the grand vin of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou from Saint-Julien in Bordeaux. The estate is a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, yet the most compelling part of this wine is its sense of place: the name refers to the beaux cailloux, the deep Günz gravel and quartz stones that help define the vineyard.The 2016 vintage is made from 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot. That Cabernet-led blend sits at the heart of the wine's powerful, structured style. The growing season began with a cool, wet spring, followed by drought and then a favourable late summer, allowing the harvest to take place under good ripening conditions.
Maturation lasted 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels. The oak presence is part of the wine's architecture, supported by the concentration, freshness and tannic frame described in the tasting notes. Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a respected winery from the Bordeaux region in France, more specifically located in the Saint-Julien appellation. The estate owes its name to the striking pebbles (beaux cailloux) in the soil, a feature that contributes to the character of the wines. Château Ducru-Beaucaillou belongs to the so-called Deuxièmes Crus Classés according to the famous 1855 classification.
