Vieux Château Certan 2021 Demi is the estate's grand vin from Pomerol, offered here in a 37.5 cl half bottle. That smaller format makes sense when you want to open a serious Bordeaux without committing to a full bottle. At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of wine where the appeal lies in the meeting of origin, vintage and a particularly practical presentation.The 2021 blend is 77% merlot, 20% cabernet franc and 3% cabernet sauvignon. Merlot brings roundness and suppleness, while cabernet franc plays a significant role in the wine's aromatic intensity, length and refinement. The small proportion of cabernet sauvignon adds a floral accent and extra structure.
The vineyard is located on the Pomerol plateau and is divided into 23 parcels. The estate links its plantings closely to the soils: merlot on clay-rich sections, cabernet franc on clay-gravel soils and cabernet sauvignon on gravel. The wine is assembled from the best lots of the property, mainly from older vines, and specialist sources mention ageing in French oak barriques, around 65% of them new.
The producer suggests opening the first bottles between 2028 and 2031, with further ageing potential beyond that. In this half-bottle format, with only the last bottles remaining, Vieux Château Certan 2021 offers a focused and thoughtful way to experience a leading Pomerol.

About VIEUX CHATEAU CERTAN
Vieux Chateau Certan is a respected winery from the renowned Bordeaux region in France, more specifically located in the heart of Pomerol. This vineyard has a long history, with roots dating back to the early 18th century. For generations, the estate has been family-owned, and it is currently run by Alexandre Thienpont. The vineyard, with an area of approximately 14 hectares, is situated on the characteristic clay and gravel soils of Pomerol that are internationally acclaimed for the unique character they impart to the wines. Mainly Merlot grapes are grown here, which, together with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc and sometimes Cabernet Sauvignon, form the basis for the house`s cuvees. Vieux Chateau Certan is known for elegant, complex, and deeply layered red wines with a classic Pomerol profile.
