Flavour notes

The aromatic profile shows the mature nebbiolo side clearly: dried rose, violet, spice and tertiary notes. Orange, red fruit and dark berries add fruit depth, while undergrowth, liquorice, tar and graphite bring a more savoury, evolved dimension.

On the palate it is described as classical, fine and structured. The tannins are firm yet mature, the body is full, and the finish is long, with a mineral line that gives the wine persistence and definition.

Product info about Ceretto Barolo Cannubi San Lorenzo 2009 Magnum (1,5l)

Ceretto Barolo Cannubi San Lorenzo 2009 Magnum is a Barolo with a very precise origin. It comes from Piedmont, from the commune of Barolo within the Barolo DOCG, and more specifically from Cannubi San Lorenzo, a small part of the Cannubi hill. Ceretto's own parcel is tiny, planted with very old nebbiolo vines and described as lying on the highest section of the hill, with an east to south-east exposure.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, the appeal of this bottle lies in the way origin, format and ageing come together. Ceretto releases this cuvée in large formats, here as a 1.5 litre magnum, and gives it extended bottle ageing before release. That makes the wine less about youthful fruit alone and more about the developed, structured side of mature Barolo.

The wine is made from 100% nebbiolo and is described in a classical, traditional frame: dry, fine, structured and aromatically layered. Available information on the 2009 vintage points to riper fruit and somewhat softer tannins than in more austere years, while the small Cannubi San Lorenzo parcel remains the defining element of the wine's identity.

With only the last bottles remaining, this magnum feels like a wine to open deliberately, preferably at the table. Beef, slow-cooked meat, osso buco, lamb, game and aged hard cheeses all sit naturally alongside the style described for this Barolo.

About CERETTO

Ceretto is an Italian winery from Piemonte, which has been a fixture in the landscape of high-quality Italian wine since the nineteen-sixties. The family business, founded by brothers Bruno and Marcello Ceretto, is especially known for its focus on the traditional grape varieties of the region such as Nebbiolo for Barolo and Barbaresco, but also works with other local varietals like Arneis and Barbera. Ceretto has several vineyards spread out over renowned areas in Langhe and Roero and owns some of the most esteemed cru's in Piemonte. They work with respect for nature and the environment; a large part of the vineyards is now farmed organically or biodynamically. Over the years, the house has received much appreciation for the balance between innovation and tradition that characterizes their wines. The Ceretto assortment offers a broad range of red and white wines, with each product expressing as much as possible the character of the terroir and the grape. Thanks to their commitment to quality and their connection to the region, Ceretto is a beloved name among enthusiasts of Italian wine.
