La Chapelle de Lafon Rochet 2019 is the second cuvée of Château Lafon-Rochet, a historic Saint-Estèphe estate classified as a Fourth Growth in 1855. It carries the setting of a serious Médoc property, yet presents it in a more approachable form than the château's grand vin.For the 2019 vintage, the blend is 57% Merlot and 43% Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes were hand-harvested, vinified in stainless steel and concrete vats, then matured for 12 months in French oak barriques. That combination gives the wine a clear Saint-Estèphe frame: depth and structure, with enough suppleness to keep the expression polished rather than severe.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Bordeaux we like to point out when someone wants a wine with classified-growth context, but with a little more immediate generosity. About CH LAFON ROCHET
Château Lafon-Rochet is a winery from the Bordeaux region in France, located in the famous Saint-Estèphe, one of the four major villages in the Médoc. This château is classified as a Quatrième Grand Cru Classé according to the legendary 1855 classification system, which places it among the higher ranks of Bordeaux wines. The origins of Lafon-Rochet date back to the 17th century, although it acquired its current name only in the 19th century through the merging of the Lafon and Rochet families. The estate is situated on a strategic location on a gravel-covered hill, which provides optimal drainage for the vines and characteristic terroir influences on the wine. The property covers approximately 40 hectares and is mainly planted with the classic Bordeaux grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
