Cantina Sardus Pater Arruga Carignano del Sulcis Superiore 2020 is a Sardinian red wine with a very clear sense of place. It comes from Sant'Antioco in south-west Sardinia, where Carignano grows on sandy soils at sea level. This cuvée is made from 100% Carignano, from alberello-trained vines with an average age of around 80 years.Old ungrafted vines, sandy ground and low yields form the backbone of Arruga. The name means street in Sardinian and refers to the white road leading to the vineyard, a small detail that says a great deal about the wine's local roots.
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, while the malolactic fermentation is completed in barriques. The wine then matures for 12 months in Allier barriques, followed by another 12 months of bottle ageing before release. The 1.5-litre magnum format gives the 2020 vintage real table presence, especially alongside grilled meats, barbecue entrecôte, game, wild boar, lamb chops or slow-cooked dishes. Falstaff awarded this vintage 92 points, in line with its powerful, mature and long-lasting style.

Sardus Pater is a winery from the south of Sardinia, Italy, with a strong regional identity that dates back to the founding of the coöperative in 1949. Located in Sant'Antioco, close to the archaeological site of the same name, Sardus Pater works closely with local winegrowers who cultivate their grapes on the island and the surrounding mainland. An important feature is the use of indigenous grape varieties, particularly Carignano, which thrives in the sandy soils of the area thanks to the influence of the sea and the Mediterranean climate. The range consists of various styles of red, white, and rosé, focusing on pure expression of the Sardinian terroir, often with wines that are strikingly flavorful and accessible.
