Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte White 2020 is a dry white wine from Pessac-Léognan, made by Château Smith Haut Lafitte. It belongs to the estate's white second wines and shows a Bordeaux style built around the contrast between the aromatic drive of sauvignon blanc and the added texture of sémillon.For the 2020 vintage, the blend is 80% sauvignon blanc and 20% sémillon. The grapes come from the château's own vineyards on Günz gravel soils and were hand-picked in small crates. The white grape harvest began on 20 August, one of the earliest starts in the estate's history. The warm, dry season produced lots ranging from taut and fresh to richer and more powerful, later brought together in the final blend.
There is careful cellar work behind the wine's shape. The grapes were pressed in a low-oxygen environment, fermented in French oak barrels and aged for 10 months on fine lees with bâtonnage. That explains why this is more than a crisp white Bordeaux: it has aromatic lift, but also breadth, grip and a composed sense of depth.
