Product info about Chateau Margaux 2012 Magnum (1,5l)
Chateau Margaux 2012 Magnum is the Grand Vin of Château Margaux from the Margaux appellation in the Médoc. It is a red Bordeaux led very clearly by cabernet sauvignon, which accounts for 87% of the blend, supported by merlot, cabernet franc and a small proportion of petit verdot. The cabernet sauvignon comes from the riper, best parcels of the estate, giving the wine its structure and depth. The 2012 vintage called for strict selection. Château Margaux chose less than 34% of the harvest for the Grand Vin, and the best press wines were carefully included to add density and flesh without disturbing the intended balance. Fermentation took place in wooden vats, followed by 22 months of ageing in 100% new oak barrels.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this magnum as more than a larger bottle. The 1.5-litre format generally develops more slowly than a standard bottle, which is especially relevant for a wine described as fresh, finely structured and built for further evolution. One product-specific drinking window mentions 2023 to 2040, with bottle format and storage conditions naturally playing an important role.
For serving, Château Margaux advises around 18 to 19 °C for great red Bordeaux. Decanting can help separate sediment and allow the wine to open, though mature bottles always deserve a careful, measured approach.
