Product info about Vieux Chateau Certan 2018
Vieux Château Certan 2018 is the Grand Vin of this Pomerol estate on Bordeaux's Right Bank. It comes from a single contiguous vineyard block on the Pomerol plateau, and the 2018 blend is 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Sauvignon is not part of the final blend for this vintage, so the wine's identity is built around Merlot's depth and Cabernet Franc's texture, freshness and length.The growing season was shaped by a mild, very wet winter-to-spring period, followed by a warm, dry summer after successful flowering. The water reserves built up earlier in the year helped the older vines cope with the later drought. In the glass, that background translates into a Pomerol described as deeply coloured, concentrated and balanced, with ripe fine tannins and notable freshness.
Within the selection at Drankenshop Broekmans, this is very much a serious Bordeaux for the cellar. The available drinking window is 2027 to 2057, with the first bottles considered approachable after roughly eight to ten years and the rest capable of much longer ageing.

About VIEUX CHATEAU CERTAN
Vieux Chateau Certan is a respected winery from the renowned Bordeaux region in France, more specifically located in the heart of Pomerol. This vineyard has a long history, with roots dating back to the early 18th century. For generations, the estate has been family-owned, and it is currently run by Alexandre Thienpont. The vineyard, with an area of approximately 14 hectares, is situated on the characteristic clay and gravel soils of Pomerol that are internationally acclaimed for the unique character they impart to the wines. Mainly Merlot grapes are grown here, which, together with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc and sometimes Cabernet Sauvignon, form the basis for the house`s cuvees.
