Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2022 is the grand vin of this Pauillac estate and a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification. This demi bottle of 37.5 cl contains the same cuvée and vintage as the standard bottle, simply in a smaller format that suits occasions where opening a full bottle is not the intention.The 2022 blend is firmly led by cabernet sauvignon, with 78% cabernet sauvignon, 17% merlot and 5% cabernet franc. The fruit comes from the estate in the southern part of Pauillac, close to the Gironde, on gravel-rich soils with clay and sandy subsoils. That setting is an important part of the wine's structure, depth and Pauillac identity.
The vintage saw a mild, dry end to winter, warm and dry spring conditions, and a hot, dry summer helped along by summer storms during ripening. Harvest took place from 6 to 27 September. In the cellar, vinification was carried out parcel by parcel in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats, followed by around 18 months in barriques, with a significant proportion of new oak.
