Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte Wit 2022 is a dry white Pessac-Léognan from Bordeaux, made by Château Smith Haut Lafitte in Martillac. It belongs to the same family of white wines as the estate's more senior cuvées, with the same serious approach to vineyard work and cellar detail.The 2022 blend is 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Sémillon. Sauvignon Blanc brings the aromatic drive and freshness, while Sémillon adds body and a softer contour. The grapes come from organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards on the Günz gravel plateau of Pessac-Léognan, with vines averaging 12 years of age for this wine.
Its character is shaped as much by the cellar work as by the blend. The grapes were hand-harvested in small crates, pressed with limited oxygen exposure and fermented in French oak barriques, half of them new. Ageing on the lees in barriques from the château's own cooperage gives the wine a rounder, gently creamy feel while keeping its fresh, energetic line.
