Flavour notes

The wine is deep and dark in colour, with an aromatic profile led by black fruit: cassis, black cherry, plum and blueberry. Floral notes of violet and peony add lift, while pepper, graphite, pencil shavings, cedar, tobacco, cigar leaf and toasted nuances give it a more serious Bordeaux register.

On the palate it is concentrated, dense and powerful, yet carried by freshness. The fruit core is clear, the texture is smooth, and the tannins are fine, rich and velvety while still substantial. The finish is long and aromatic, with tension and an oak presence that is described as integrated or moving towards integration.

Product info about Chateau Brane Cantenac 2022

Château Brane-Cantenac 2022 is the grand vin of Château Brane-Cantenac in Margaux, Bordeaux. It is a dry red wine and a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 Médoc classification, yet the real interest here lies in how the 2022 vintage expresses depth, ripeness and Margaux precision in the same glass.

Cabernet sauvignon forms the core of the blend, supported by merlot and small proportions of cabernet franc, carmenère and petit verdot. For the grand vin, the estate refers in particular to old-vine parcels on the Brane plateau, planted on gravel soils with clay influence. The harvest ran from 7 September to 10 October, in a year marked by heat, drought and abundant sunshine. According to the château, the result was intense colour, ripe fruit and finely defined tannins, while keeping a sense of freshness.

In the cellar, the wine was vinified in wooden vats with careful extraction, an important detail in a vintage of small, concentrated berries. It then spent 18 months in French oak barriques, all new, giving the wine the structure and frame expected from a serious left-bank Bordeaux built for ageing.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a bottle that deserves context rather than haste. The producer indicates 25 to 30 years of ageing potential, and the 2022 vintage has received notably high praise from names such as Jeb Dunnuck, Vinous, Jane Anson and Decanter. As these are the last bottles in our selection, it is a wine to choose deliberately: for long cellaring, or for a carefully prepared table moment, decanted for 1.5 to 2 hours and served with a structured beef dish with savoury or earthy accents.

Ch Brane Cantenac is a well-known wine producer from the Bordeaux region in France, specifically located in the Margaux appellation within the Medoc. The estate carries the full name Chateau Brane-Cantenac and has a long history dating back to the 18th century. In 1855, the chateau was recognized as Deuxième Grand Cru Classé during the famous Bordeaux classification, indicating an established reputation within the region. The current owner is the Lurton family, who have managed the estate since 1925; currently, Henri Lurton is at the helm.
