Chateau La Mission Haut Brion Rood 2021 Magnum is a red Bordeaux from Pessac-Léognan, drawn from the La Mission Haut-Brion vineyards in Talence and Pessac on the gravel terraces of the northern Graves. As the estate's red grand vin and a Cru Classé de Graves, it already has a strong sense of place; the 1.5-litre magnum format adds extra presence, whether for the table or for careful cellaring.The 2021 blend brings together merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc, with merlot and cabernet sauvignon sitting very close in proportion. It came from a demanding growing season, with cool conditions, rain, and then a drier August with cool nights helping the grapes develop more gradually. The selected lots were matured for 18 months in oak barriques, a significant share of them new.
What stands out in the available notes is the style of the vintage: not a wine built purely on weight, but one described through freshness, precision, dark fruit, rounded tannins and mineral length. That makes the 2021 especially interesting as a Bordeaux where vineyard work and selection play a central role in the final expression.
