Château Pichon Baron 2020 is the Grand Vin of Château Pichon Baron in Pauillac, Bordeaux. It also carries the longer historic association with Château Pichon-Longueville au Baron de Pichon-Longueville, and its status as a 2ème Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification places it firmly in the classical language of the Médoc.The 2020 blend is led by cabernet sauvignon, with merlot completing the wine. The fruit comes from the estate's oldest vines on its historic plots, including the Butte de Pichon Baron, a sector in production as early as 1694 and reserved entirely for the Grand Vin. Careful parcel and intra-parcel selection shaped the wine before 18 months of maturation in barriques, 70% new and 30% one-year-old.
The vintage itself was far from simple: a very wet winter, a tropical spring, then dry and warm conditions, with August thunderstorms easing water stress in Pauillac. According to the producer, both merlot and cabernet sauvignon delivered deep colour and abundant tannin, while acidity and potential alcohol remained within normal limits.
