Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2020 in magnum is a serious Pauillac with a strong sense of place. This is the château's grand vin, a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, presented in the generous 1.5-litre format.The 2020 blend is led by cabernet sauvignon, with merlot and cabernet franc adding their part. The fruit comes from the Pauillac estate, where gravel, clay and sand form the vineyard setting. Vinification was carried out plot by plot, using gravity and temperature-controlled conical stainless-steel vats, followed by 18 months in oak barrels, 60% of them new.
The vintage itself had an early start, then moved through warmth, drought and later rain that helped the ripening continue. Harvest ran from 9 to 29 September under healthy, dry conditions. That background helps explain the wine's combination of concentration, structure, freshness and fine tannins.
