La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion 2020 is the second wine of Château La Mission Haut-Brion, from Pessac-Léognan in Bordeaux. Its name refers to the chapel of La Mission Haut-Brion, built in 1698 by Lazarists, giving the wine a direct connection to the estate's own history.For the 2020 vintage, the blend is 55.3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 44.7% Merlot. The slight Cabernet Sauvignon majority gives the wine a firm Bordeaux structure, while the Merlot contributes to the fleshy, concentrated fruit core described in the tasting notes. Maturation included 30.1% new barrels.
The growing season was far from ordinary. A mild, wet winter and very early start were followed by spring rain and mildew pressure, then an exceptionally hot and dry spell from mid-June to mid-August. Vineyard work was adapted, including reduced leaf removal, to protect the bunches and help preserve aromatic freshness. Rain from 11 August supported further ripening, and the red grapes were harvested in healthy condition between 7 and 29 September.
