Product info about Tenuta Di Nozzole Il Pareto 1998
Tenuta di Nozzole Il Pareto 1998 is a Tuscan red with a very specific identity within the estate. Il Pareto is Tenuta di Nozzole's Cabernet Sauvignon cuvée, made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grown in the Il Pareto vineyard in Greve in Chianti, at around 350 metres above sea level. Rather than following the traditional Chianti route, it belongs to the Super Tuscan idea of expressing Tuscany through a different grape and structure.The wine was created in the 1980s, with 1987 mentioned by the producer as the first vintage. It holds the position of a cru within the estate and is made only in selected years. At Drankenshop Broekmans, the 1998 vintage is particularly interesting as an older release of a Tuscan Cabernet Sauvignon conceived with long ageing potential in mind.
For this vintage, the grapes were generally harvested in the second half of October. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, followed by around 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, partly new and partly second passage. The wine then spent about six months in bottle before release.
Robert M. Parker Jr. rated the 1998 Nozzole Il Pareto 90 points, with notes referring to cedar, cigar smoke, spices, blackcurrant, new oak and a long finish. As with any mature bottle, present condition depends strongly on bottle format, provenance and storage history.
