Tenuta di Nozzole Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2016 is a Tuscan red wine from Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari, produced in Greve in Chianti. The cuvée bears the Giovanni Folonari name and represents a more traditional interpretation of Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, made from 100% Sangiovese grown on the estate, with fruit from a cru at around 300 metres above sea level.The maturation approach is an important part of its identity. After vinification, the wine spent 24 months in large used Slavonian oak casks, followed by bottle ageing. Rather than placing oak at the centre, this style gives Sangiovese room to show its own personality: ripe red fruit, spice, freshness and firm structure.
The 2016 vintage saw a mostly warm, dry summer and a steady harvest period through September and October. This Gran Selezione is described as a limited production release, with 4,800 bottles mentioned for the vintage and numbered bottles for the cuvée.
