Product info about Linkwood 12y 2013

Linkwood 12y 2013 from Blackadder is a Speyside single malt with a very focused identity: a single cask release, bottled at cask strength, finished in Oloroso. Rather than feeling like a broad house-style bottling, it gives a close look at one individual cask and the way sherry influence can add texture to Linkwood's elegant, fruit-led side.

Distilled on 2 April 2013 and bottled on 1 February 2026 as a 12-year-old whisky, it comes in at 59.1% ABV. Only 261 bottles were drawn, and within the selection at Drankenshop Broekmans this is now down to the last bottles, giving it a naturally limited feel.

The charm here lies in the contrast between Speyside finesse and the richer touch of the Oloroso finish. Ripe fruit, dried fruit, gentle spice and pastry-like notes build around a smooth, refined core, adding depth without pushing the whisky away from its more delicate character.

The aroma is elegant and inviting, showing ripe pear, raisins, soft orange and amber honey. Hazelnut, light floral notes and a biscuit-like touch add a finer layer.

About LINKWOOD

Linkwood is a Scottish single malt whisky originating from the Speyside region, an area known for its smooth, elegant whiskies. The Linkwood distillery was originally founded in 1821 near Elgin and has since built a solid reputation, with a rich history dating back to the early days of Scottish whisky production. Although Linkwood is especially a beloved choice among connoisseurs, the brand itself is less often directly available as a distillery bottling; much of the produced spirit is used in blends, but regular official and independent single malt bottlings do also appear. Linkwood single malt is known for its refined, slightly floral and fruity character, sometimes with notes of grass and soft oak influences. Production takes place according to traditional methods, which contributes to the characteristic, subtle profile for which the distillery is valued. Linkwood is managed by Diageo, one of the largest players in the whisky world, and is part of their Flora & Fauna series, in which special distilleries are given extra attention. Thanks to the consistent quality and distinctive flavor profile, Linkwood is appreciated worldwide by those who love smooth, balanced Speyside whiskies.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of whisky is Linkwood 12y 2013?

Linkwood 12y 2013 is a unknown whisky .

Is Linkwood 12y 2013 a no age statement whisky (NAS)?

No, Linkwood 12y 2013 is not a no age statement (NAS) whisky. The label explicitly states an age and that age represents the youngest whisky found in the bottle (or in the blend).

Is Linkwood 12y 2013 a single cask whisky?

Yes, Linkwood 12y 2013 is a single cask whisky. That makes this spirit unique of its kind, because because it only came from one cask and was not blended with other casks, only the other bottles from the same cask are exactly the same.

Is Linkwood 12y 2013 a whisky at cask strength?

Yes, Linkwood 12y 2013 is a whisky cask strength. A cask strength whisky is not diluted with water before bottling, but goes straight from the cask into the bottle and therefore retains the alcohol percentage during/after cask maturation.

One of the advantages of a cask-strength whisky is that, as a drinker, you can decide how strong you like your whisky by diluting or not diluting it with a little water yourself according to your preference, instead of the producer having already done this for you.

Is Linkwood 12y 2013 suitable to give as a gift?

Although this Linkwood 12y 2013 is not or does not have explicit gift packaging, it can certainly make an excellent gift. Gift packs are usually taken as a safe choice of gift because brands often combine the most accessible or their most popular whisky combine with a fun accessory in a nice gift pack. But if you are looking for a gift for an experienced whisky-drinker they may not be waiting for yet another glass and then this one Linkwood 12y 2013 might even be a better choice than such a gift pack.

Is Linkwood 12y 2013 a tarred whisky?

No, there is no peat in the flavour profile in this Linkwood 12y 2013 whisky . The absence of any smokiness therefore makes it suitable for those who do not like a peat flavour.

Is Linkwood 12y 2013 a spicy whisky?

On its own, yes, but this Linkwood 12y 2013 is one whisky with only a slightly spicy flavour profile: the spiciness of this whisky is not emphatic in the flavour profile, but it is there.

The spiciness of a spirit can come about in different ways.

  • In whisky, the spicy notes mainly arise during the maturation process in wooden casks. The type of wood used (e.g. American oak, European oak) and whether the casks have been used before (e.g. sherry casks) have a big influence on the spiciness of the whisky that comes out of them.
  • With rum, the spicy notes can also come from the barrels used, but in addition there is also a separate class of "Spiced rum" where extra spices are added.
  • Gin has a much shorter production cycle and therefore does not usually get its spiciness from wood. Spicy notes in a gin are usually the direct result of the botanicals used to "colour" the gin and give it its own identity.
Is Linkwood 12y 2013 a fruity whisky?

On its own, yes, but Linkwood 12y 2013 is a whisky with only a slightly fruity flavour profile: the fruitiness of this whisky is hidden in the flavour profile, balanced with the other parts of the profile.

  • Whiskies with a fruity character can range from light and fresh apple notes to deep, ripe stone fruit and exotic aromas. This fruitiness can come from the grains, yeast and fermentation used, the shape of the pot stills and the cask type.
  • Rum made from sugar cane or molasses lends itself ideally to fruity notes. From the fresh citrus aromas of a white rum to the deep pineapple and banana notes of an aged variety - fruitiness is an essential characteristic in many rums. Again, the same factors affect fruitiness as with whisky.
Do you drink Linkwood 12y 2013 pure or with ice?

Whether you drink this Linkwood 12y 2013 whisky best with or without ice is a personal choice. We have always chosen not to take a stance on adding water or ice to whisky. There are certainly good reasons to add a little water to your whisky, but whether it adds value to you or detracts from your enjoyment is something you should mainly discover for yourself.

Does Linkwood 12y 2013 have a high alcohol content?

Whisky of more than 52% is rather rare. Often, such a high alcohol content is due to the fact that it is a cask strength whisky (a whisky cask strength): the whisky in that case is not diluted before bottling so it goes into the bottle at a higher alcohol content. Whisky with a high alcohol content often benefits from a few drops of water to release the aromas and make the alcohol less predominant in the glass, and in itself is also fine for use in stronger cocktails.

Is Linkwood 12y 2013 an independent bottling?

Linkwood 12y 2013 is a whisky of the Linkwood brand bottled by the independent bottler Blackadder. That makes this bottle an independent bottling.

Is Linkwood 12y 2013 suitable for an Irish Coffee?

To make an Irish Coffee according to the rules of the art, you need an Irish whiskey. Since you are going to mix it with coffee and whipped cream, we recommend using a good, but not overpriced whiskey. This Linkwood 12y 2013 is a whiskey, but because this whiskey comes from Scotland it is not the best choice to make a "real" Irish Coffee.

Did you know that the first Irish Coffee was invented in 1942 by bartender Joe Sheridan? He was working at the airport in Foynes, in the west of Ireland. The barman saw some tired passengers and figured they needed coffee with something special. To perk them up, he poured them coffee with a dash of whiskey mixed in and some coffee on top. When asked if it was Brazilian coffee, Sheridon replied, "No, my friend, this is Irish Coffee." And so it was.

Is Linkwood 12y 2013 vegan?

According to the data currently available to us, we cannot state with certainty that this product is vegan and this claim is not explicitly made by the brand.

Is Linkwood 12y 2013 a biological whisky?

Based on the information available to us, we can conclude that this Linkwood 12y 2013 whisky from Linkwood is not an organic product.

How do I get started on Scotch whisky?

Many people assume that a more expensive bottle of Scotch whisky is automatically better. It sounds logical: the higher the price, the better the quality. But in reality, the difference between a bottle of a few tens and one worth thousands of euros is rarely purely in the taste. What you pay has much more to do with age, scarcity, marketing and reputation than with what you actually taste in your glass.

To understand this properly, it helps to look at Scotch in different "levels". Each level tells you something about what you are drinking and, more importantly, what you are paying for, but not every epicurean goes through all these levels.

You can read all about it in our blog post Why an expensive Scotch doesn't necessarily taste better - the different levels of Scotch.
