Goldwasser is a traditional German liqueur that originated in the city of Gdansk, which was known as Danzig until after the Second World War and was then part of Germany. Goldwasser spirits have existed since the late 16th century and are especially recognizable by the characteristic flakes of real gold leaf floating in the bottle. The recipe for this herbal liqueur has been preserved over time and contains a combination of various spices and botanicals, giving the final result a subtle spicy and slightly sweet character. The main producer, now located in Germany, thus continues a centuries-old tradition. The composition of Goldwasser has always been surrounded by a certain mystery, but elements such as cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves are often mentioned as distinctive flavorings.
