Amendoa Amarga Amerguinha refers to the classic Amarguinha Original, a Portuguese bitter almond liqueur from the Algarve. Its identity is closely tied to that region, with bitter almond at the centre of the drink's character.What sets it apart is its drier, more intense almond profile. Rather than leaning into a soft, confectionery style, it keeps the bitter almond note clear and expressive, supported by 20% alcohol and a fresh drinking impression.
The production is described as a cold process in which sugar and water are blended before alcohol and an aromatic infusion are added. A period of maturation or stabilisation in oak vats is also mentioned. That gives the liqueur a traditional frame, in keeping with a Portuguese almond liqueur style with more than a century of history in the Algarve.
