Byrrh Grand Quinquina is a French red quinquina, an aromatised wine aperitif rather than a vintage wine. Its character is built around Roussillon wines, mistelle, quinquina bark, botanicals and spices, with muscat mistelle adding a fruitier, sweeter element to balance the dry bitterness of quinine.
The drink is closely tied to Thuir in French Catalonia, in the Roussillon near the Spanish border. Byrrh dates back to the 19th century, when the brothers Simon and Pallade Violet created a wine aperitif based on quinquina. Grand Quinquina is positioned as a recipe that looks back to the original late-19th-century style of Byrrh: wine-led, bittersweet and aromatic.

Byrrh Rare Assemblage is not a standard red wine, but a French wine-based aperitif from Thuir in the Pyrénées-Orientales. It belongs to the quinquina tradition: aperitifs built around wine, mistelle, botanicals and quinquina, with a base drawn from Catalan and Roussillon wines.
Its distinctive point is the assemblage of selected years, followed by extended oak ageing. Grenache Noir, Carignan and Macabeu form part of the wine background, while Muscat mistelles bring natural sweetness and quinquina gives the drink its firm bitter thread. The oak maturation helps soften the tannins and gives the aperitif a more rounded, developed structure.
