Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte White 2021 is a dry white wine from Pessac-Léognan in Bordeaux. It is one of the second wines of Château Smith Haut Lafitte, yet it clearly carries the estate's serious approach to white winemaking rather than feeling like a simple secondary label.The 2021 blend is made from 80% sauvignon blanc and 20% sémillon. The sauvignon blanc gives drive, freshness and aromatic lift, while the sémillon adds more roundness, texture and weight. The grapes come from the château's own vineyards on Günz gravel soils, farmed organically and biodynamically, with an average vine age for this cuvée listed at 11 years.
The cellar work is equally precise. The fruit is hand-harvested in small crates, pressed under inert gas to limit oxidation, then fermented in French oak barriques. Ageing takes place on the lees with bâtonnage, in barrels from the château's own cooperage, with a proportion of new oak. That background helps explain the wine's combination of freshness, creamy texture and mineral tension.
