Mission Haut Brion Rouge 2021 in double magnum is a bottle with presence before it is even poured. The 3-litre format gives extra stature to a red Pessac-Léognan from Château La Mission Haut-Brion, while the wine itself remains the estate's grand vin and a Cru Classé de Graves.The 2021 vintage has a more classical Bordeaux feel. After an early start to the growing season, cooler and wetter conditions slowed the vines, before warmer, drier weather and cool nights in August helped the grapes continue their ripening. The blend brings together merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc from gravel-rich terraces in Talence and Pessac, over a subsoil of clay, sand, limestone and falun.
Careful selection plays an important role here. Grapes are harvested by hand, sorted and destemmed, then vinified under temperature control. The grand vin is assembled from the best lots and matured in barriques, with a significant proportion of new oak for this vintage.
