Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte Wit 2020 is the white grand vin of Château Smith Haut Lafitte, produced in Martillac within the Pessac-Léognan appellation. It is a dry white Bordeaux with a clear sense of place, made from estate-grown fruit coming from vineyards set in one continuous block on a Günz gravel plateau.The 2020 blend is led by Sauvignon Blanc, with small proportions of Sauvignon Gris and Sémillon. The grapes were hand-harvested in small crates, pressed under inert gas to protect aromatic expression, then fermented in French oak barrels. Ageing took place for 12 months on the lees in barrels from the château's own cooperage.
What gives this vintage its interest is the tension between ripeness and energy. 2020 is described as a warm, ripe year, yet the available tasting notes point to citrus freshness, saline minerality, texture and length. The estate has been certified organic since 2019, and this vintage is also described as having been worked biodynamically.

Smith Haut Lafitte is a well-known winery from the French Bordeaux region, specifically located in the Pessac-Lëognan appellation south of Bordeaux city. The estate has a rich history dating back to the 14th century, but only received its current name in the 18th century, when the Scottish merchant George Smith acquired the property. Today, Smith Haut Lafitte is especially known for its red and white wines made from grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Sauvignon Blanc. Since 1990, the estate has been owned by the couple Daniel and Florence Cathiard, who have invested heavily in modernization, sustainability, and organic practices in the vineyard.
