Product info about Petrolo Galatrona 2019 Magnum (1,5l)
Petrolo Galatrona 2019 Magnum is a Tuscan red wine with a very focused identity: 100% Merlot from Vigna Galatrona in DOC Valdarno di Sopra. Petrolo describes this vineyard as the estate's grand cru of Merlot, and the wine is built around that single-site expression rather than around a broader regional style.The vineyard lies on the south-eastern edge of the Chianti hills, at around 300 metres altitude, with a south-east exposure. Its medium-heavy clay-rich soils, with galestro, alberese and sandstone, are especially relevant for Merlot because the clay helps retain moisture during warm, dry summers. The grapes are hand-harvested, sorted on a table and fermented naturally with indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks. Maturation follows in French oak barriques for about 18 to 20 months, roughly one third of them new.
The 2019 vintage carries an additional layer of meaning: it marked 25 years of Galatrona since the first harvest in 1994. For that occasion, the label received a special flying heart image created with artist Sabina Mirri. In magnum, it also becomes a particularly fitting bottle for a memorable dinner table or for further cellaring. Only 1,500 magnums were produced for the 2019 vintage, and with the last bottles now remaining, this format has a naturally limited feel.

Petrolo is a Tuscan winery located in the hills of Val d'Arno di Sopra, an area southeast of Florence. The estate has a long history dating back to the Middle Ages, although it only took on its modern form as a winery in the twentieth century. The vineyards of Petrolo are planted on soils rich in clay and stone, which contributes to the characteristic structure and depth of their wines. Well-known grape varieties used at Petrolo are primarily Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
