Château Les Ormes de Pez 2021 is a red Bordeaux from Saint-Estèphe in the Médoc. The estate lies near the hamlet of Pez and traces its history back to the eighteenth century. Since the 1930s it has been in the hands of the Cazes family, also associated with Château Lynch-Bages. In the glass, this is very much in the Saint-Estèphe mould: structured, dark-fruited and carried by freshness.The 2021 vintage was shaped by a demanding growing season. An early start was followed by cool conditions, rain during flowering and low yields. Better weather returned towards the end of September, allowing the grapes to gain the ripeness and concentration needed for the final blend. Merlot, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and petit verdot all play their part, with hand harvesting and vineyard sorting.
After traditional vinification, the wine spent 16 months in French oak barrels, 45% of them new. The result is a wine with firm tannic presence, dark fruit and the lively imprint of the vintage.
