Product info about Chateau Calon Segur 2020
Château Calon Ségur 2020 is the grand vin of the Saint-Estèphe estate in the Médoc, carrying the 1855 classification of Troisième Grand Cru Classé. It is very much a Cabernet Sauvignon-led Bordeaux, shaped by a vintage that required careful work both in the vineyard and in the cellar.The 2020 blend is built around Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a small touch of Petit Verdot. The grapes were hand-harvested and carefully selected, first in the vineyard and then again before vinification. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by around 20 months of maturation in new French oak barriques.
The year brought warmth, drought and some difficult moments, yet the gravel and deep clay soils of Calon Ségur helped the vines maintain balance during the dry summer. That background is reflected in the wine's firm structure, depth and freshness.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a serious Saint-Estèphe for cellaring rather than a bottle to rush. Several respected critics rated the 2020 vintage highly, and the stated drinking windows point clearly towards further bottle development. With only the last bottles remaining, it is also becoming a rarer presence in our Bordeaux selection.

About CH CALON SEGUR
Château Calon Sëgur is a historic winery from the French Bordeaux region and belongs to the renowned appellation Saint-Estèphe in the Médoc. The estate has a rich history dating back to the 12th century, with the name Calon referring to an old type of boat used to transport wood along the river. The current castle and wine estate became especially famous under the Sëgur family, who were in charge in the 18th century and were also responsible for other major Bordeaux names. Château Calon Sëgur was classified as Troisième Grand Cru Classé in 1855, meaning that since then it has been recognized as one of the third growths of the region. The vineyards cover approximately 55 hectares, with mainly the grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small percentage of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The wines of Calon Sëgur are known for their combination of power and elegance, with a strong character typical of Saint-Estèphe, but with remarkable finesse and aging potential. Today, the château is still highly regarded among Bordeaux enthusiasts and, besides the Grand Vin, also offers a second wine, Le Marquis de Calon Sëgur.
