Product info about Chateau Calon Segur 2021
Château Calon Ségur 2021 is the grand vin of the estate, from Saint-Estèphe in the Médoc. As a Troisième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, it sits firmly in the tradition of left bank Bordeaux, with Cabernet Sauvignon at the heart of the wine. In 2021 the blend is led by 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Cabernet Franc, Merlot and a small proportion of Petit Verdot. The estate describes 2021 as a classic Bordeaux vintage, shaped by moderate alcohol, fresh acidity and elegant tannins. The grapes were harvested by hand and carefully sorted, followed by vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and 20 months of ageing in new oak barrels.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a Saint-Estèphe for customers who appreciate structured, Cabernet-driven Bordeaux with the capacity to develop further in bottle. Its strong critical reception, including 97 points from Vinous and Wine Enthusiast, adds context without needing to overshadow the wine itself. With only the last bottles remaining, this is a focused choice for those looking for a serious 2021 Bordeaux from a classified growth.

About CH CALON SEGUR
Château Calon Sëgur is a historic winery from the French Bordeaux region and belongs to the renowned appellation Saint-Estèphe in the Médoc. The estate has a rich history dating back to the 12th century, with the name Calon referring to an old type of boat used to transport wood along the river. The current castle and wine estate became especially famous under the Sëgur family, who were in charge in the 18th century and were also responsible for other major Bordeaux names. Château Calon Sëgur was classified as Troisième Grand Cru Classé in 1855, meaning that since then it has been recognized as one of the third growths of the region. The vineyards cover approximately 55 hectares, with mainly the grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small percentage of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The wines of Calon Sëgur are known for their combination of power and elegance, with a strong character typical of Saint-Estèphe, but with remarkable finesse and aging potential. Today, the château is still highly regarded among Bordeaux enthusiasts and, besides the Grand Vin, also offers a second wine, Le Marquis de Calon Sëgur.
