Algueira Dolio 2020

Algueira Dolio 2020 is a dry red wine from Ribeira Sacra in Galicia, shaped by the steep terraced vineyards along the Sil. It is built around native Galician red varieties such as Mencía, Brancellao, Merenzao, Caáño and Sousón, giving it a profile that feels distinctly regional: fresh, precise and mineral rather than broad or heavy.
There is a strong sense of place behind this wine. Algueira is connected with the recovery of old terraces on the slopes of Doade and Abeleda, and Dolio comes from some of the estate's better terroirs. The winemaking is described as artisanal, with whole-cluster work, indigenous yeasts and ageing in French oak, including barriques and large foudres. The oak is noted as integrated and restrained, allowing the fruit, (…)Alma 2020

Alma 2020

Alma 2020 from Bodega Contador is a red Rioja with a strong sense of place. This is the first vintage of the cuvée from Benjamín Romeo's project in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, in Rioja Alta, made mainly from Tempranillo with a smaller share of Garnacha.
The wine draws its character from three parcels around the village, each representing a different part of the landscape. Lower alluvial and gravelly soils near the Ebro are combined with fruit from a stonier middle zone and a higher, clay-limestone area at the foot of the Sierra de Toloño. That combination gives Alma 2020 its depth, freshness and firm Rioja identity.
It matured for 20 months in new French barriques, adding structure along with spicy, toasted and balsamic accents. The 2020 (…)Ekam Blanc 2021

Ekam Blanc 2021

Ekam Blanc 2021 presents a cooler, more mountain-shaped side of Spanish white wine. Made by Castell d'Encús in Talarn, in Catalonia's Pallars Jussà, it comes from D.O. Costers del Segre and is built mainly around Riesling, with Albariño adding its own accent. The style is dry, aromatic and sharply defined.
The vineyards of Castell d'Encús sit high in the Pyrenees, at roughly 800 to 1,230 metres. That altitude is central to the wine's identity, helping to preserve natural acidity and giving Ekam a sense of precision that sets it apart from many warmer Mediterranean whites. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we appreciate it as a Spanish white with a distinctly fresh, finely etched personality.

Ekam Blanc 2021 Magnum is a Spanish white wine from Catalonia, made by Castell d'Encus in the D.O. Costers del Segre. Its personality is closely tied to altitude: the grapes come from high Pyrenean vineyards, where natural freshness is a defining part of the wine.
The 2021 vintage is led by Riesling, with a smaller proportion of Albariño. That combination gives the wine its dry, precise and aromatic style. Fermentation took place at low temperature in small stainless-steel tanks with native yeasts, followed by nine months on the lees. A small portion of the grapes was harvested with noble rot, adding length and a subtle glyceric texture.
In magnum, Ekam Blanc takes on a more generous table presence. Only 300 magnums are mentioned for the 2021 vintage, (…)Ekam Essencia Blanc 2019

Ekam Essencia Blanc 2019 is a Spanish white wine with a very particular point of view. Made entirely from riesling, it comes from Catalonia's D.O. Costers del Segre, in the Pyrenean area of Pallars Jussà around Talarn in Lleida. The vineyards sit high, between roughly 800 and 1,230 metres, and that altitude matters: the wine depends on natural acidity to carry its gentle sweetness.
Castell d'Encús shapes Ekam Essencia in a lightly sweet to medium-sweet style, described by the producer as reminiscent of kabinett or spätlese. The grapes come from the estate's own vineyards and are hand-harvested in small 10 kg crates. Selected parcels combine high natural acidity with high sugar levels, while only limited botrytis is used so that the clarity of riesling (…)Farina Campus Gothorum 2018

Farina Campus Gothorum 2018 is a Spanish red wine from D.O. Toro, produced by Bodegas Fariña in the province of Zamora. Within the estate's range, Campus Gothorum sits among the more serious cuvées, made in limited production with a clear focus on terroir, old vines and the identity of Tinta de Toro.
The fruit comes from six vineyards with ungrafted, own-rooted vines that the producer describes as roughly 50 to 140 years old. These old bush vines grow on alluvial, sandy soils with rounded stones, and the grapes are harvested by hand. That background helps explain the wine's firmly built Toro style: concentrated, structured and marked by depth.
The wine spends 15 months in French and American oak barrels, followed by bottle ageing. Its oak (…)Farina Crianza 2018

Farina Crianza 2018 is a Spanish red wine from the D.O. Toro in the province of Zamora, produced by Bodegas Fariña from 100% Tinta de Toro. This local form of Tempranillo gives the wine its sense of place: ripe, structured and unmistakably rooted in Toro.
The wine is made from destemmed grapes, with a short pre-fermentation maceration at low temperature followed by 10 to 12 days of alcoholic fermentation. Ageing then takes place for 12 months in French oak barrels, followed by at least 2 years in bottle. With the 2018 vintage, that means the wine has moved beyond youthful fruit and into a more developed stage, where maturity, spice and oak influence sit together more calmly.

Farina Gran Colegiata 2016

Farina Gran Colegiata 2016 is a red Reserva from D.O. Toro in Spain, made entirely from Tinta de Toro. The grapes come from old, ungrafted vines over 60 years of age, a detail that says a great deal about the wine before the glass is even poured. This is a Toro wine with a clear sense of origin rather than a generic Spanish red.
The Gran Colegiata name has genuine significance within Bodegas Farina. It refers back to the Colegiata wines through which the estate began commercialising Tinta de Toro in the 1970s. Gran Colegiata Reserva later played an important role in the reputation of the producer and in the wider recognition of Toro wines. The word Original points directly to that heritage.
After manual harvesting, the wine spends 18 months in American oak (…)Farina Gran Colegiata 2016 Magnum (1,5l)

Farina Gran Colegiata 2016 Magnum is a red wine from Toro in Castilla y León, bottled in the generous 1.5-litre magnum format. It comes from Bodegas Fariña, where the Gran Colegiata name carries real meaning: it refers to the historic Colegiata of Toro and to the early wines Fariña made under the Colegiata name in the 1970s.
The wine is made entirely from Tinta de Toro, sourced from old ungrafted vines more than 60 years of age. The grapes were hand-harvested, fermented in stainless steel under controlled temperature, and matured for 18 months in American oak barrels. Fariña positions it as a Reserva, with a style that deliberately looks back to the original Gran Colegiata identity.

Farina Lagrima 2019 Magnum is a red wine from Toro in Spain, bottled in a generous 1.5-litre magnum. It is a tinto roble made from 100% Tinta de Toro, the local Tempranillo variant, with a style built around ripe fruit, structure and a measured touch of oak.
Lagrima refers to the free-run juice, obtained by gravity without mechanical pressing. That detail matters here because it helps explain the fruit-driven nature of the wine. A short maturation in French and American oak adds depth, spice and grip while keeping the wine clearly rooted in its Toro fruit.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Spanish red that speaks well at the table: generous enough for roasted meat, lamb with garlic, beef, tapas, roasted vegetables or mature cheeses, yet still (…)Farina Lagrima 2020

Farina Lagrima 2020 is a red wine from Toro in Spain, made entirely from Tinta de Toro, the local Tempranillo variety of the region. For this vintage, the grapes were harvested by hand, giving the wine a clear link to its origin and to the concentrated style associated with Toro.
The name Lagrima refers to the use of free-run must: juice obtained by gravity, without mechanical pressing. It is made in a tinto roble style, with four months of ageing in French and American oak, enough to add polish and seasoning while keeping the fruit at the centre.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Spanish red we like to introduce when someone wants Toro with structure, but not an overly mature or heavily oaked expression. The 2020 vintage is now down to the last (…)Farina Mascaradas 2019

The wine is built around estate-grown fruit from seven vineyard plots with different soils and exposures. Grapes from poor sandy soils are blended with fruit from slopes containing clay and limestone. For the 2019 vintage, the producer refers to vines over thirty years old, adding an extra sense of place to this dry red Tempranillo.

This is the estate's Ferrer Bobet wine itself, not the separate Vinyes Velles or Selecció Especial Vinyes Velles cuvées. The blend brings together cariñena, garnacha negra, syrah and cabernet sauvignon. Grapes are hand-harvested in small crates, with selection and gravity flow used in the cellar to keep the handling controlled and precise.

Ferrer Bobet Selecció Especial Red 2018 is a dry red Priorat from Catalonia, made from 100% Cariñena. It comes from the Porrera area, where very old vines grow on steep slate slopes. The wine is built around depth rather than softness: dark fruit, floral detail, spice and a clear mineral line all play an important role.
The grapes come from century-old vines on costers de pissarra, the steep slate terraces associated with Priorat. Harvesting was done by hand in small 10 kg boxes, followed by strict berry-by-berry selection. In the cellar, Ferrer Bobet used gravity, fermentation in wooden vats and 18 months of ageing in new fine-grained French oak with light to medium-light toast. Ferrer Bobet Vinyes Velles Red 2018 is a dry red wine from Spain's DOQ Priorat in Catalonia. That setting matters: old vines rooted in steep slate slopes and terraces give the wine depth, while cooler influences, altitude changes and strong day-night temperature differences help retain freshness and acidity.
The 2018 vintage is made from 86% Cariñena and 14% Garnacha tinta. Grapes are hand-harvested in small 10 kg crates, selected berry by berry and moved into tank by gravity. M. Ant° De La Riva Macharnudo 2023 San Cayetano is a dry white Spanish wine from Jerez, but it is not a classic fortified sherry. It is described as a Vino de Pasto: a still, unfortified wine that places Palomino Fino and a very specific vineyard origin at the centre of the glass.
The fruit comes from San Cayetano within Pago Macharnudo, from Palomino Fino vines noted as planted in 1988. The calcareous, albariza-like soil and the saline, chalky identity linked to Macharnudo shape the wine's style: dry, tense and firmly rooted in place. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts in 615-litre vessels, without temperature control, followed by ageing under the influence of flor, without fortification.

Marques De Riscal Tapias 2019 is a Rioja with a very specific sense of place. It is the first vintage of this cuvée and comes from Finca Las Tapias in Elciego, within Rioja Alavesa. Made from Tempranillo, it is drawn from a carefully chosen 2.85-hectare selection inside a 15-hectare vineyard regarded by Marques De Riscal as one of its finest sites.
The vineyard background matters here. Las Tapias was planted in 1968 using massal selection from very old vines. Its soils, on ancient Ebro terraces, are looser and more stony than usual, with a clear limestone layer beneath. The 2019 season added its own imprint: small berries, open bunches, a Las Tapias harvest beginning on 2 October, and grapes marked by low pH and high acidity.

Marques De Riscal Tapias 2020 is a red Rioja with a very precise sense of origin. It comes from Finca Las Tapias in Elciego, within Rioja Alavesa, where Marqués de Riscal selected a small section of a vineyard the estate regards as one of its finest.
The wine is made from Tempranillo planted in 1968 through massal selection. Its setting on old Ebro terraces, with a looser gravel-rich soil and a limestone layer deeper down, gives useful context to the wine's identity. The vineyard surroundings include Mediterranean herbs such as thyme, lavender, sage and rosemary, adding to the impression of a wine built around place rather than a broad regional formula.
After 20 months in French oak barrels, Tapias also nods to the historic Bordeaux-influenced wines (…)Marques De Vargas Hacienda Pradolagar 2016

The 2016 blend is 80% Tempranillo and 20% Mazuelo. The grapes were hand-harvested in small crates, cooled after picking and manually sorted before vinification. Fermentation was adapted to the different soil types, using native yeasts from the individual plots. The wine then spent 23 months in new French oak, with the choice of oak matched to the fruit character and tannin softness of the final blend.

The 2016 vintage is built mainly on Tempranillo, with Garnacha and Mazuelo playing supporting roles. Tempranillo brings elegance, Garnacha adds a richer fruit expression and Mazuelo contributes freshness. The grapes were hand-picked, selected by parcel and fermented with native yeasts, followed by 22 months of ageing in French oak.
