Marques De Vargas Reserva 2017 is a red Rioja Reserva from Spain, made from the estate's own vineyards around Hacienda Pradolagar near Logroño. It is the house's main Reserva cuvée, built around tempranillo, garnacha and mazuelo, with each variety contributing its part: elegance, density and freshness.At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Rioja we like to present when the vineyard story matters as much as the ageing. The Pradolagar vineyards are divided into micro-parcels according to soil, grape variety and viticultural potential, with poor clay-limestone soils, gravel and calcareous elements forming the foundation.
The grapes are hand-harvested in small crates, cooled, then manually selected the following day. Fermentation uses indigenous yeasts from the estate vineyards, followed by 23 months in French oak barrels. The 2017 vintage also carries the context of a smaller Rioja harvest after severe spring frost.
Serve it at around 17 to 18 °C and give it time to breathe before pouring. Its dark fruit, spice and oak-aged depth make it a natural partner for grilled red meat, Iberian ham or sheep's milk cheeses.
