Château Smith Haut Lafitte Red 2019 is the grand vin of Château Smith Haut Lafitte, a Grand Cru Classé de Graves from Martillac in Pessac-Léognan. The blend clearly leans on Cabernet Sauvignon, which makes up 59% of the wine, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a small proportion of Petit Verdot.The grapes come from the estate's own vineyard, planted as one continuous block on Günz gravel soils. Those gravel soils are an important part of the château's identity: they drain naturally and reflect heat and light, helping the grapes reach maturity. For this vintage, the average vine age is stated as 48 years, adding to the sense of depth and concentration in the wine.
In the cellar, the 2019 was vinified as whole berries in small wooden vats, with extraction by manual pigeage. It then spent 18 months in barriques, 60% of them new, made in the château's own cooperage. That in-house control over the barrels says a great deal about the precision behind the wine.

About SMITH HAUT LAFITTE
Smith Haut Lafitte is a winery from the Bordeaux region in France, specifically located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, south of the city of Bordeaux. The estate has a history dating back to the 14th century, but the name Smith Haut Lafitte became known in the 18th century thanks to the Scottish merchant George Smith, who acquired the estate and linked his name to it. Today, the Château is owned by Daniel and Florence Cathiard, who have been managing it since 1990. Smith Haut Lafitte produces both red and white wines, with the reds generally made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and the whites mainly from Sauvignon Blanc, complemented by Sémillon and Sauvignon Gris.
