Chateau Canon La Gaffeliere 2022 is a red Bordeaux from Saint-Emilion, produced as the château's grand vin within AOC Saint-Emilion Grand Cru and described by the producer as Premier Grand Cru Classé. The 2022 vintage is presented in the available tasting notes as concentrated, yet not heavy.The blend says a great deal about the wine's personality: 50% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot gives the wine its foundation, while the significant share of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon brings freshness, floral lift, spice and structure. The vineyards lie at the foot of the slope south of the medieval village of Saint-Emilion, on clay-limestone and clay-sandy soils that the estate describes as well-drained and warm. Fermentation took place in wooden vats, with a 32-day cuvaison and extraction by pneumatic pigeage. Maturation followed for 15 months on the lees in oak barrels, 40% new, and in vats.
