Valdespino Inocente En Rama Single Vineyard Macharnudo Alto is a fino sherry with a very clear sense of origin. It comes from Viña Valdespino in the Pago Macharnudo Alto, near Jerez de la Frontera, and is made entirely from Palomino Fino grown on albariza soils rich in calcium carbonate. The vineyard is not just background here; it is part of the identity of the wine.Valdespino keeps close to a traditional way of working. The grapes are harvested by hand, fermentation takes place in American oak botas, and the wine is then fortified to 15% before ageing biologically under flor. The solera is more than a century old and consists of ten criaderas, with an average wine age of around ten years. That gives this fino a level of depth and structure that feels closely tied to its long cellar life.
The en rama indication matters: this is bottled without the clarification or filtration that may be used for regular commercial bottlings. About VALDESPINO
The first seeds of Bodegas Valdespino were sown in 1264, when Don Alfonso Valdespino received an estate in Jerez de la Frontera from King Alonso for his help in the fight against the Moors. In the meantime, Valdespino has become a purveyor to, among others, the Spanish and Swedish royal families. The Palomino grapes that serve as the basis for this Inocente Fino come from one vineyard in Pago Macharnudo Alto in Jerez de la Frontera. The area Viña Macharnudo Alto is located in the heart of the region, at the highest point of the Sherry DO, and is considered the Grand Cru of the wine-growing area. The vineyard has been owned by Valdespino for decades and is exposed to the cool breezes from the Atlantic Ocean. The vines are on average 50 years old and the soil is known for the white chalky Albariza, which dominates the region.
