The blend tells much of the story: 55% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Château Canon La Gaffelière 2021 is a red Bordeaux from Saint-Émilion Grand Cru and the grand vin of the château. The estate carries Premier Grand Cru Classé status in Saint-Émilion, yet the real interest of this vintage lies in its shape: fresh, precise and aromatic, rather than broad or heavy.
The blend is 45% cabernet franc, 35% merlot and 20% cabernet sauvignon. In the cooler and wetter 2021 vintage, frost and mildew pressure affected certain merlot parcels, giving cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon a more prominent role than usual. That helps explain the wine's floral, spicy and mineral drive.
