Chateau Grand Corbin-Despagne 2021 Magnum is a red Bordeaux from Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, presented in a 1.5-litre bottle. It is the grand vin of Château Grand Corbin-Despagne, a property in the northern part of Saint-Emilion, close to Pomerol. For the Despagne family, 2021 also represents the 210th vintage on the Grand Corbin terroir, giving this release a meaningful place in the estate's long history.The blend is led by merlot, supported by cabernet franc and a small proportion of cabernet sauvignon. The organically farmed vineyard is planted on gravelly and clay-rich soils with iron deposits and old sand layers over blue clay. The 2021 growing season was demanding, marked by frost, cool spells, rain and mildew pressure, before the final 45 days brought better ripening conditions. The château describes the vintage as fresher, lower in alcohol and more Atlantic in style than the previous three vintages.
Maturation took place in a mix of new barrels, one-year-old barrels and amphorae. That detail says quite a lot about the approach: there is structure and oak influence, but also an effort to preserve tension, fruit and definition. In magnum, the wine has an extra sense of occasion, especially for a table where the bottle can be opened, shared and followed over time.

Ch Grand Corbin-Despagne is a French winery that has its origins in the Bordeaux region, specifically within the Saint-émilion Grand Cru appellation. The estate is located in the northwest of Saint-émilion and is one of the older and more established names in the area, with roots going back well into the nineteenth century. The Despagne family has been closely connected to the winery for several generations and is known for their care for both tradition and innovation in viticulture. The vineyards cover about 28 hectares and are mainly planted with Merlot, supplemented by Cabernet Franc and a smaller portion of Cabernet Sauvignon, which is characteristic of the terroir and wine style from this region.
