Clos Apalta Vinotheque 2013 is more than a later availability of a respected Chilean red. This is a cellar release from Clos Apalta itself, with bottles kept at the estate for an extended period before being released under the Vinotheque label. It is the same 2013 Clos Apalta at its core, but presented after additional bottle age in controlled cellar conditions.The wine comes from Apalta in Chile's Colchagua Valley and follows a Bordeaux-inspired direction, led by Carmenère. The blend is 70% Carmenère, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small share of Petit Verdot. Among the vineyard material mentioned are old, ungrafted Carmenère and Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted in 1920. The vineyards were certified organic by CERES and biodynamic by Demeter.
The cellar work reinforces that sense of detail: hand-harvested grapes, complete hand destemming, native yeast fermentation and 28 months in new French oak. It was bottled without fining, cold stabilisation or filtration. With only the last bottles remaining, the 2013 Vinotheque has become an increasingly scarce release.
