Clos Marsalette 2020 Blanc is a dry white Bordeaux from Pessac-Léognan, made by Clos Marsalette in Martillac. The white wine production here is small in scale: the estate has just 1.30 hectares of white grapes alongside its red plantings, which gives this bottling a rather focused, limited feel.The 2020 vintage is a blend of 60% Sauvignon Blanc and 40% Sémillon. After harvesting in late August, the wine fermented in stainless steel and spent nine months on its lees. Part of the ageing remained in stainless steel, while the larger share took place in oak barrels, including a portion of new oak. That combination keeps the wine fresh and dry, while adding shape, creaminess and a measured touch of barrel influence.
Its vineyard setting also matters. The vines grow on gravelly rises formed by ancient deposits of the Garonne, with marine sediments, sand, clay and shell-bearing layers beneath. It is a fitting background for a white Pessac-Léognan with freshness, texture and a gastronomic temperament.
