Product info about Chateau Montviel 2020
Château Montviel 2020 is a dry red Pomerol from Bordeaux's Right Bank, led by Merlot with Cabernet Franc playing a supporting role. It comes from a property of around 10 hectares, connected to the Péré-Vergé/Parent family, and represents the château's main wine rather than its second label.There is a clear sense of selection behind this vintage. The grapes were hand-harvested, with cluster thinning in July and further sorting during ripening to encourage even maturity. In the cellar, the wine underwent a 12-day cold pre-fermentation phase in concrete vats, fermentation in concrete, and 16 months of ageing in barrique, with a substantial proportion of new oak. The result is a Pomerol described in a ripe, concentrated style, yet with enough freshness and structure to keep it composed.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see Château Montviel 2020 as a serious Right Bank bottle for the table or the cellar. Guide Hachette gives a drinking window from 2028 to 2040 and suggests serving it at 17 to 18 °C. Decanting for 2 to 3 hours is a sensible approach, especially alongside red meat, game or cheese.

About CH MONTVIEL
Ch Montviel is a winery from the Bordeaux region in France, specifically located in the Pomerol appellation on the right bank of the Dordogne River. The wine estate is among the smaller producers in Pomerol and is known for its distinctive, Merlot-driven wines. The estate comprises approximately 10 hectares of vineyards, planted mainly with Merlot and, to a lesser extent, Cabernet Franc. The vineyards are situated on typical Pomerol soils of clay, gravel, and sand, which contributes to the elegant and full style of the wine. Ch Montviel has been managed since the late 1980s by the renowned winewoman Sylvie Cazes, who has also been responsible for other prominent Bordeaux estates. In the cellar, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks, followed by aging in oak barrels, with a portion of the wood being renewed annually.
