Clos Apalta 2018 Demi brings one of Chile's notable red wines from the Apalta Valley into a 37.5 cl half-bottle format. The wine is Bordeaux-inspired in structure, yet clearly shaped by its Chilean identity, with Carménère forming the majority of the blend alongside Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.The fruit comes from Clos Apalta Vineyard near Santa Cruz, where 48 hectares are selected within a larger estate. Part of the vineyard dates back to plantings from 1915 to 1940, complemented by younger parcels. The vineyard is certified organic by Ceres and biodynamic by Demeter. Its setting, influenced by the Tinguiririca River and protected by the surrounding hills, is described by the producer as helping slow ripening and retain natural acidity.
Clos Apalta considers 2018 one of Chile's great cool vintages of the 21st century. The winemaking reflects a careful, detail-driven approach: a long maceration with manual pigeage, fermentation partly in French oak vats and partly in new French oak barrels, followed by 25 months in French oak. The wine was bottled without fining, cold stabilisation or filtration.
