Chateau Haut-Batailley 2016

Chateau Haut-Batailley 2016 is a red Pauillac from Bordeaux's Left Bank, carrying the firm, dark and structured character associated with this appellation. It is the grand vin of Château Haut-Batailley, a Fifth Growth from the 1855 classification, made from 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot.
The estate's vineyards in the southern part of Pauillac are described as fine Garonne gravel over clay-rich subsoil, with vines averaging around 35 years of age. Grapes were harvested by hand, with selection in the vineyard and on the sorting table. The wine then matured for 16 months in French oak barrels, 70% of them new, giving support to a wine built around depth, tannic shape and ageing potential.
The 2016 growing season in Bordeaux moved from a cool, wet (…)Chateau Haut-Batailley 2021

Château Haut-Batailley 2021 is the grand vin of Château Haut-Batailley, a Cinquième Grand Cru Classé from Pauillac. It should not be confused with Château Batailley: Haut-Batailley is a separate estate, owned since 2017 by the Cazes family. The vineyard lies in the southern part of Pauillac, close to Saint-Julien, on Garonne gravel with a clay subsoil.
The 2021 vintage was shaped by a slower growing season after an early start. Rain during flowering and cooler temperatures reduced yields, while more favourable weather towards the end of September helped the grapes reach further maturity. Harvesting was done by hand, with strict selection both in the vineyard and at the sorting table.
The blend is 70% cabernet sauvignon and 30% (…)Chateau Haut-Batailley 2021 Demi (37,5cl)

Chateau Haut-Batailley 2021 Demi (37,5cl)

Chateau Haut-Batailley 2021 Demi is the half-bottle format of the grand vin of Chateau Haut-Batailley, a red Pauillac from the Médoc. The estate is a Cinquième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, and the 2021 blend is clearly led by cabernet sauvignon: 70% cabernet sauvignon and 30% merlot.
The 2021 vintage in Bordeaux was cooler and later than several warmer years, and that shows in the wine's personality. Rather than leaning on richness, it is described through freshness, precision and structure. The grapes were hand-harvested, selected in the vineyard and sorted again in the cellar, followed by around 16 months of ageing in French oak barriques, about 70% of them new.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Pauillac we (…)Chateau Haut-Batailley 2021 Magnum (1,5l)

Chateau Haut-Batailley 2021 Magnum (1,5l)

Château Haut-Batailley 2021 Magnum is the estate's grand vin, bottled here in the generous 1.5 litre format. It comes from Pauillac on Bordeaux's Left Bank and carries the Cinquième Grand Cru Classé status from the 1855 Médoc classification.
The 2021 vintage shows a very classical side of Pauillac. Cabernet sauvignon leads the blend at 70%, with merlot making up the remaining 30%. The estate's position in the southern part of Pauillac, close to Saint-Julien, and its fine Garonne gravel soils over clay help frame a wine built on freshness, structure and dark-fruited definition rather than sheer volume.
Harvesting was done by hand, followed by strict selection in the vineyard and again in the cellar. The wine spent 16 months in French (…)Haut-Batailley Verso 2019

Haut-Batailley Verso 2019
In stock
Haut-Batailley Verso 2019 is the second wine of Château Haut-Batailley, a Pauillac estate on Bordeaux's Left Bank. Verso takes its cue from the same terroir as the grand vin, but presents it in a more approachable frame: Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend, supported by Merlot, from the estate's vineyards in the southern part of Pauillac near Saint-Julien.
The 2019 vintage brought healthy fruit, small berries from early-summer water stress and good concentration, while later rainfall helped preserve freshness through to harvest. The grapes were hand-picked and carefully sorted, followed by around three weeks of vatting. Ageing took place for 8 months in one-year-old barriques, so the wood influence remains discreet rather than dominant.

Haut-Batailley Verso 2020
In stock
Haut-Batailley Verso 2020 is the second wine of Château Haut-Batailley in Pauillac, a property listed as a Fifth Growth in the 1855 classification. Verso shows the château from a more approachable angle than the grand vin, while still carrying recognisable Pauillac traits: dark fruit, tannic shape, spice and a graphite-like mineral note.
The 2020 blend is made from 60% merlot and 40% cabernet sauvignon. That merlot share gives the wine a generous fruit core, while the cabernet keeps the Bordeaux structure clearly in place. The fruit comes from Haut-Batailley's vineyards in the southern part of Pauillac, close to Saint-Julien, on soils of Garonne gravel, clay and alios.
The growing season started early, followed by warm spring conditions, a dry (…)
