Flavour notes
The aromatic profile brings cassis, blackcurrant, blackberry, black cherry and plum to the fore. Behind the fruit there are floral notes of violet and lilac, followed by graphite, pencil shavings, cedar, tobacco, liquorice and a gently earthy, spicy edge.On the palate it is precise, fresh and structured, medium to medium-full in body. The tannins are clearly present yet refined, with a fine chalky, lightly chewy feel. Dark fruit runs through the centre, while the finish turns mineral and slightly saline, with graphite, savoury cabernet tones and a firm line of freshness.

Product info about Chateau Haut-batailley 2021 Magnum (1,5l)
Château Haut-Batailley 2021 Magnum is the estate's grand vin, bottled here in the generous 1.5 litre format. It comes from Pauillac on Bordeaux's Left Bank and carries the Cinquième Grand Cru Classé status from the 1855 Médoc classification. The 2021 vintage shows a very classical side of Pauillac. Cabernet sauvignon leads the blend at 70%, with merlot making up the remaining 30%. The estate's position in the southern part of Pauillac, close to Saint-Julien, and its fine Garonne gravel soils over clay help frame a wine built on freshness, structure and dark-fruited definition rather than sheer volume.
Harvesting was done by hand, followed by strict selection in the vineyard and again in the cellar. The wine spent 16 months in French oak barriques, around 70% of them new. That élevage brings cedar, tobacco and subtle spice into the picture, while the cabernet-driven Pauillac line remains clearly at the centre.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this magnum as a particularly interesting bottle for those who appreciate structured, age-worthy Bordeaux in a classic register. It is youthful and firm now, with the tension of the 2021 vintage, yet it has the framework for further bottle development. The magnum format adds to that sense of patience and occasion, especially as these are the last bottles.
