Chateau Haut-Batailley 2016 is a red Pauillac from Bordeaux's Left Bank, carrying the firm, dark and structured character associated with this appellation. It is the grand vin of Château Haut-Batailley, a Fifth Growth from the 1855 classification, made from 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot.The estate's vineyards in the southern part of Pauillac are described as fine Garonne gravel over clay-rich subsoil, with vines averaging around 35 years of age. Grapes were harvested by hand, with selection in the vineyard and on the sorting table. The wine then matured for 16 months in French oak barrels, 70% of them new, giving support to a wine built around depth, tannic shape and ageing potential.
The 2016 growing season in Bordeaux moved from a cool, wet start into a long, warm and dry summer. For Haut-Batailley, that produced a dry red wine with ripe dark fruit, freshness, refined but clear tannins and a long, linear finish. About CH HAUT-BATAILLEY
Château Haut-Batailley is a winery from the Bordeaux region in France, more specifically from the renowned Pauillac appellation in the Médoc. The estate has a long history in the wine world, dating back to the 18th century. Since the Bordeaux classification of 1855, Château Haut-Batailley has belonged to the Crus Classés as a fifth Grand Cru Classé (Cinquième Cru). For a long time, the estate was managed by the Borie family, until it was taken over in 2017 by the Cazes family, also known from Château Lynch-Bages. The vineyards are located on classic gravel soils, characteristic of Pauillac, and cover more than 20 hectares. The grape varieties are traditional for this region, with an emphasis on Cabernet Sauvignon, supplemented with Merlot and a small share of Cabernet Franc. Château Haut-Batailley is known for its wines that combine power, elegance and refined complexity, often with a solid structure and potential for long aging. The estate works with respect for tradition, but under recent ownership has also invested in further quality and modernization of viticulture and vinification.
